It was the start of a new best of three series with Team Stock battling Team Wacker at Forest Dunes in Northern Michigan.  The Ryder Cup was our most competitive in Santy Cup history, as it came down to the last couple matches on the course.  Day 1 at Forest Dunes was one of the most competitive match days in Santy Cup history!  Brandon Cole drained a 15' on #18 to force a halved match.  This putt resulted in an overall 3-3 tie heading into Friday's matches.  Team Wacker dominated Friday's matches, taking four out of six matches, to give them a 7-5 lead heading into Saturday.  Saturday had 18 points up for grabs.  Team Stock re-grouped Saturday morning and gave Team Wacker the ass kicking they received Friday, as Team Stock won four out of six matches.  The momentum swung back to Team Stock as they had the lead heading into the final round singles matches, 9.5-8.5.  Saturday singles featured some blow outs and some back-and-forth thrillers.  With three matches left on the course the score was Team Stock had 13 points and Team Wacker had 14 points.  Team Stock had the lead in all three remaining matches on the course through 15 holes and had the team victory in their sights.  What unfolded next will live on in Santy history.  The three remaining undecided matches on the course were Jared Wagoner vs Will Nodo, Matt Starkey vs Nick Thaxton, and Jordan Higgins vs Jordan Roth. Will Nodo and Nick Thaxton were both 1 up heading into 18, but Jared battled to halve his match verse Will.  Matt Starkey followed Jared's gritty halve with one of his own, as Matt won #18 to halve his match as well.  With those two matches resulting in half points, it put Team Wacker at 15 points, needing just one more half point for the victory!  What happened next was a Santy all-time finish!  Jordan Higgins was 2 down standing on the 16th tee.  Higgins won 16, 17, 18 to secure a match victory and a team victory for Team Wacker!  Higgins shot into the par 5 17th at The Loop Black is a shot that will live on forever, as it set up a tap in birdie to bring the match back to all square.  Higgins made a par on 18 to win 1 up and give us a result of Team Wacker 16 and Team Stock 14!  The 2023 Santy Cup matches were what the fans have been waiting for as the result came down to the last groups on the course.  One can only hope future Santy Cups are as competitive as 2023 at Forest Dunes was!  Team Solids were led by Kyle Mahoney who was 4-0-0 on the week and Craig Hyson who was 3-0-1.  Congratulations to Team Wacker members: Robby Campbell, Will Carroll, Brandon Cole, Leo Fante, Jordan Higgins, Craig Hyson, Kyle Mahoney, Kevin McCarthy, Ben Rader, Matt Starkey, Cody Wacker, and Jared Wagoner!  Everyone on the team played their role en route to a memorable victory!

The 2023 Santy Cup Individual tournament was a victory of historic proportion.  After round 1 2022 Santy Cup Champion Ron Smith led by one shot over Chris Amato and Ben Galluzzo.  Friday was moving day at Forest Dunes and move is what Kyle Mahoney did, as he shot up from 8th place into a tie for first with Chris Amato.  Kyle shot a net 1 under on Friday The Loop Red.  Kyle slept great Friday night on the lead as he lapped the field in the final round Saturday at The Loop Black.  Big numbers were left off his card in the final round, which was the key en route to winning the green jacket.  Kyle shot back-to-back net one unders on Friday and Saturday.  On the front nine in the final round Kyle took advantage of his pops as he made net birdies on the three holes he popped on.  He kept the momentum going on #10 with a net eagle which pretty much sealed the victory.  Kyle won by a Santy Cup record seven shots!  Great playing by Mr. Mahoney, especially on Friday and Saturday.  Kyle now gets his patch on the Bendelow Green Jacket and his name in the record books forever!
